Sapienza and Politecnico di Milano are the best Italian universities according to the 2023 World Reputation Ranking by Times Higher Education (THE), which was published on February 13, 2024. The ranking places both universities in the 91-100 range among the world’s top 100 generalist universities, showing an improvement from last year. Sapienza’s rector, Polimeni, praised the achievement and said that the university is internationally renowned. The ranking is based on a survey of 38,796 academics from 166 countries, who were asked to name the best universities for research and teaching in their field. The top five universities in the world are Harvard, MIT, Stanford, Oxford, and Cambridge.
